Receiving a diagnosis of dementia can be a difficult reality for those affected and their loved ones. To better live the journey ahead, we must come to accept the diagnosis and avoid denial, learn about the disease, understand how it will evolve, develop health care plans, ensure the safety of the person at home and provide the greatest possible support to family caregivers to avoid burnout.

 

In this workshop, Claire Webster will explain through her 12 years experience as a caregiver for her mother, the signs and symptoms of Alzheimer's disease, as well as the lessons she has learned in terms of the appropriate tools for manage care well, without forgetting the financial impact for which loved ones must be prepared. She will also share the impact it has had on her own health, family and career as well as the resilience required to recover from such exhaustion.

 

About Claire Webster:

Claire Webster is a Certified Alzheimer's Care Advisor, as well as a speaker and trainer in the field of Alzheimer's disease. She is the founder and president of Passage Aidant Inc., a consulting firm that provides education and support services to help people navigate the dementia journey.

Claire is the founder of the McGill University Dementia Education Program, which is part of the Division of Geriatric Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine. As a former caregiver of her late mother, Claire has had a first-hand experience of the overwhelming emotional and physical impact the disease has on those with the disease and on family members.
